Online MBA Programs
A January Business Week article entitled “Virtual Workplaces in the Classroom” explored advancements in online programs offered by MBA programs. Now students are investigating the world of business online. Computer-based simulations are being adapted and used in place of case studies. Instead of simply reading paper based case studies, students immerse themselves completely in online simulated business where they act as CEO and problem solve in competition with other students using skills and theory learned in class. An increasing reliance on technology and the Internet in business makes it no surprise that MBA programs are utilizing programs such as these. Online MBA programs take this commitment to technology a step further by offering the entire MBA program online.
Online MBA programs are increasingly popular for mid-career professionals who struggle to plan classes around an already crowded schedule. Online MBA programs do not assume that students are able to contort their lives around a rigid classroom agenda. Flexible coursework that can be completed from the home or at work, email communication with professors, and bulletin board classroom discussions all put the convenience of the student first. The unique student-centered, or perhaps more fitting, client-centered educational approach of online MBA programs put the needs of the student first while student first while still providing quality coursework.
However, students just graduating with undergraduate degrees are also enrolling in online MBA programs. Accustomed to using the internet in almost every part of daily life from applying for jobs to purchasing movie tickets the current generation of graduates is as comfortable online as they are in the classroom. Socializing and conducting business online through chat rooms, instant messages, bulletin boards, and email is common for almost everyone with a computer and high speed Internet. Transitioning to an online classroom takes little effort for a digital native, and for many students the Internet format of online MBA programs is preferable.
Regardless of the student, online MBA programs like those offered by Drexel University and the University System of Georgia provide what many traditional colleges cannot, a viable MBA option for students that is not limited by location or daily schedule. Whether you are a full-time employee, a full-time parent, or simply a night owl who prefers the Internet to face-to-face instruction, online MBA programs extend high quality education at any time or any place.
